Guest guest
Dear Shri Dhiman, The problem of Monkeys straying out in urban areas is created by humanbeings. We have encroached upon Forests thus denying the right of food and protection(habitat) to wildlife and also monkeys. These represent wildlife and their proper place is forests. The monkeys throng the urban areas and start eating cooked food like breads, roasted gram, chapattis and fastfood thrown by humanbeings. This not only change the habit of simians but also make them dependent upon human beings. There is human animal conflict resulting into incidences of Bitings and in result cruelty upon these creatures or vice versa. We should ask the Govt. to rehabilitate these animals and should not insist upon feeding the wrong food to these animals. It has happened in Himachal pradesh where Monkeys have left the forests and throng the Highways for want of food from Tourists. Many accidents take place where humanlives, property and life of the Monkeys are lost. People should not provide them food in public places but at specified places or in shelters/rescue centres as per advice of experts. I hope you will agree with me. regards, Dr.Sandeep K.Jain President,People For Animals Ludhiana Ex-Member,Animal Welfare Board of India. contact wrote: Dear Sir/Madam, There are bad times ahead for the helpless animals. Sometimes back, there was a news item in the papers that the Ministry of Environment and Forests submitted to the Supreme Court that in order to check the monkey “menace” in Delhi, they will pass an Act to make feeding of monkeys a crime (Please see newspapers of 18/3/2005). Ironically, they are the people, one of whose duty is to look after the welfare of animals. Now the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has gone one step further. As per a news item published in the Hindustan Times and other papers of 3/5/2005, the NDMC challaned a family for committing the “offence” of feeding monkeys and made them to appear before a Magistrate. For the last several years, the NDMC and other authorities in Delhi have gradually destroyed the habitat of animals, birds and wildlife in the name of “development” and “beautification” of the city. The result is that animals in Delhi have been left with hardly any place to live and almost nothing to eat and drink. Now the NDMC want to starve them to a slow, agonizing death. What Ministry of Environment and Forests land NDMC are doing may be a trend setter. Soon many more authorities may take cruel measures against animals. Today it is monkeys. Tomorrow it will be cows, dogs and birds. The most frightening thing is that the actions of these bodies will create an atmosphere against the animals and will instigate the people to be cruel to them. As we all know, it is not enough to be kind to the animals. It is also important to stop others from being cruel to them, especially if the perpetrator of cruelty is a Government agency. Kindly raise your voice against what is being done by the NDMC and Ministry of Environment Forests (and may be done by other authorities in the near future). You may like to write to them, telling them that they should not make an already miserable life of animals more miserable. If they can’t help taking harsh measures against monkeys (and other animals), they should first take measures for the restoration of their habitat. Their addresses are given below: (1) Smt.
