Well-known poacher nabbed

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian authorities have arrested and charged a well-known tiger

hunter, who wildlife experts believe is responsible for the deaths of at least

20 tigers, a court official said on Wednesday.

Keo Sim, prosecutor of Koh Kong provincial court, said that Yor Ngon and a

30-year-old man who was driving him on a motorbike have been charged after being

caught red-handed.

& #147;Both men were charged on April 6 with exploitation of rare

wildlife, & #148; he said.

Keo Sim said Yor Ngon was well-known for poaching in the provinces of Koh Kong,

Pursat and Stung Treng.

According to environmental organisation WildAid, Yor Ngon was travelling from

western Pursat province on a motorbike & #147;loaded with 25 bear claws, 9 wild

boar canines, 82 bear nails and 15 turtle & #039;s plastrons & #148;.

Yor Ngon had been captured several times by rangers but could never be kept in

custody due to lack of evidence. & #150; AFP
