Move in to save the wildlife, says Khir - The Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR: Save the wildlife. This is the call by Selangor Menteri Besar

Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo to the Wildlife and National Parks

Department.

Dr Khir wants the department to send its officers into the forest reserves

of Bukit Antarabangsa and Ukay Perdana to protect the animals.

 

He said this after an injured barking deer which was rescued in Taman Mulia,

Bukit Antarabangsa, died yesterday morning.

 

Residents in the area blamed the State Government for allowing massive land

clearing activities at the areas, affecting wildlife in the nearby forests.

 

However, Dr Khir, responding to a query whether development projects in the

two areas would be stopped, said the work would be allowed to continue.

 

He said the Selangor Government could not stop development projects in Bukit

Antarabangsa and Ukay Perdana in Ampang as it would be too costly to

reacquire the land.

 

Dr Khir said the State would have to fork out at least RM10 million in

compensation to the developers as some plots of land were alienated for

development more than 40 years ago.

 

“Some plots of land were alienated in 1963, even before I was born,” said Dr

Khir when met during an official visit to Jalan Hulu Langat’s Observation

Point yesterday.

SAM furious over blatant land clearing land-clearing

 

KUALA LUMPUR: Sahabat Alam Malaysia is “absolutely furious” over the

clearing of the forest reserve in Bukit Antarabangsa that forced a deer to

seek refuge in a house. SAM president SM Mohamed Idris, in a statement

yesterday, said they support Ampang residents’ call for an immediate halt to

the clearing of forests and hills to prevent the incident from recurring.

 

“There seems to be more issues of blatant land clearing as well as illegal

logging cropping up in the media. We have come to the conclusion that

whatever remaining tracts of forests and hills are cleared with total

disregard to what is left of the hills and forests.
