Bratash, who flew down from Moscow after the incident, said some of those “shouting themselves hoarse” over alleged animal rights violations at the Russian Circus had not even seen the animals and ‘‘would know little about their upkeep’’. Bratash alleged neither the activists nor the media approached circus officials after the incident to find out the “true story”. ‘‘I am appalled that nobody is blaming the producer of the circus,’’ Bratash said. ‘‘They were to take care of the lodging and boarding, the rent for the grounds, the requisite permissions and the security of the circus. But they failed to honour the commitment they have made in a contract with us.’’ The release said the Russian Consulate in Mumbai had written to the state government on March 23 expressing concern over the attitude of Choice Events and Trade Private Ltd, the firm that brought the circus to India. ‘‘We even sought official intervention,’’ he said. ‘‘But that did not happen.’’ GREATNESS OF NATION AND ITS MORAL PROGRESS CAN BE JUDGED BY THE WAY ITS ANIMALS ARE TREATED- M.K GANDHI.
