Many leading animal activists also want to know what Public Health Veterinary Harischandra kacpaw has done .It was mentioned in the open letter to

the Prime minister but there are more cruel developments .Mr Brian Faulkner who

was working for wspa rabies programme in Sri lanka has sent me a letter

saying that the rabies programme is not a failure and etc.

I thought of sending his remarks and the real story of rabies control in Sri

lanka as the International animal welfare organisations and other persons

should investigate about the work of their officers in other countries.

If not at the end people would lose their faith in Animal Welfare Organisations

and animals would be the real losers.

The epidemiologists have given the statement as rabies control programme in Sri

Lanka as a failure .

We are not happy about that news about the death after 10 years of dog bite.We

still keep our fingers crossed and wait for the comments from the experts in the

Health Department.

We have no authority to stop the reporters from reporting them.Some time ago

that paediatrician was immunising the dogs in her hospital with rabies vaccine

but the D.M.O was cruel enough to destroy them when she was on leave.

The other rabies cases in the papers were quite unfortunate as there was no

public awareness and had the immunisation was done properly these children

could have been saved.

(For an example there are car accidents but do we stop travelling or driving in

vehicles?

But it is necessary to educate the people and punish the offenders to save the

people.)

 

As WSPA has initiated their programme with local groups Kacpaw ,Blue paw and

Public health Veterianry Director and have a responsiblity and they haven`t done

it properly for rabies control programme.

Rabies cases can appear but you have to work very hard and continuously and

these people didn`t care and Sri lankans know about that.

The street dog population multiplied in Colombo and they were not immunised

,and there were several warnings in the newspapers and after the death of the

Girl in Colombo 10 ,I went to that area.The neighbours have given their pets to

the Municipal and destroyed them.

What these local groups were doing?

Colombo Municipal is destroying the dogs in the streets now.

The animal lovers are shocked as the Municipal of Colombo is killing all the

community dogs .They have killed the dogs in the Courtcomplex and schools and

everywhere .

AWPA has rescued the mother and 10 pups which were about to be destroyed at

Arpico show rooms

in Colombo jut before Christmas.They found homes for these puppies.

 

Mr Brian Faulkner have visited Sri Lanka on four occasions, conducting humane

dog handling

>workshops, on behalf of WSPA, and have worked with KACPAW, Blue Paw, and

>recently the public health department directed by Harsichandra.

Folowing incidents show how they have used that knowledge.These cases were

reported .

 

Harischandra and veterinary surgeon of Kotte Municipal Council Mrs Mendis have

a

Special plan .Kotte Municipal Veterianry surgeon Mrs Mendis ask a person from

the area

to send a request to Harischandra to kill the dogs.

..Then Dr Harischandra send the poison and Mrs Mendis allow them to kill the

immunised dogs.

 

There were dogs which I have immunised for rabies (birth control was done)in

the Rajagiriya Janadipathi Vidyalaya

and the Central Bank Training Institute which was next to the school.

At the end of June 2004 Dr Harischndra and Mrs Mendis sent dog catchers and as

the dog

Came out of the school and the bank premises the dog catchers killed them with

the poison

injections.The caretaker was crying when he told me that story.That dog was nice

dog

who went out of the school to defecate and urinate

On the 20th September 2004 they killed the 6 dogs which I had immunised for

rabies (Birth Control was done)on the

Spot. The dog catchers were drunk.It was a small lane and the dogs were

harmless.They were like pets.

We are glad as Brian Faulkner will not be visiting sri Lanka as he had created

misery and problems

for our dogs and people.The people have witnessed how these animals were

dragged and totured .

WSPA should ask explanation from him for the problems he has created in sri

lanka .
