Guest guest
Arpan Sharma The people that run Help in Suffering in Durgapura, Rajastan are very close friends of mine and I ran the Help in Suffering office in Australia for many years and only resigned when other work got to be too much. The people that run it are Christine and Jeremy Townend. They are Australians and do spend time back in Australia a couple of times a year. Besides the Animal Birth Control (abc) program they also run an equine sanctuary and have mobile animal ambulances. The ambulances go out to villages to treat sick animals. They also put in watering troughs thoughout various parts of India for animals to drink from. They do much else including a rabies vaccination progran. They get help from other groups sometimes (including some of the largest groups) but the largest percentage of money is money they raise themselves. Having your own supporters is most importart. The success to the ABC program is the length of time it has been running. I have heard that other such programs have started up in India but seem to fold up in a year or two. Some have been run on a very ad hoc basis so they are not really effective. Any such program must be run for years and done very methodically. You will start seeing a difference in 5 years but will notice a big difference in 10 years. It is not a problem with a quick solution. You must be in it for the long haul but it is worthwhile work. It really makes a difference. However it is the same with any animal welfare issues. Most of them you have to be working on that issue for years to make a difference. Good luck - I hope you are successful Lynette Shanley Primates for Primates Wildcats Plus Animal Defenders.
