Guest guest
615B Nawala Poad Rajagiriya. 02.o4.17 Dr Beligaswatta General of health Services Ethical Committee for dog control This refers to the meeting held on the 19th of March 2002 on the above subject.I regret to state that no mention made in Director Public Health Veterinary Service`s minute regarding your final statement that no condition will abandon killing of dogs to control dog population in Sri Lanka. I found that a dog that was sterilized in 1998 with the Animal welfare and Protection sterilization Campaign in Kotte was destroyed this year and at the same time so many dogs which were given Contraceptive injections by me have been killed by the Kotte Municipality during past 3 years. This contradicts my proposal to introduce birth control mthod instead of killing dogs to overcome the grave problem. This can be easily solved by importing depo-provera (1ml)injection throughthe State Pharmaceutical Corporation. Proposal for sterilization is not practical as it involves lot of money and time and is not cost effective.. My proposal is cost effective and as practical and it will not infringe on the Buddhist values. It is very popular in Colombo and Kotte . Excisting policy of the Health Department is to kill 5% of the dog population during the antirabies Vaccination programme .My proposal was to use contraceptive injections with the antirabies injection Which is very cost effective and local authorities can afford to spend the money needed. I appeal to make this an island wide programme Dr Kala Santha Veterinary surgeon
