Guest guest
Animal Welfare and Protection Association of Sri Lanka which is at 107 ,Kadawatha Road ,Dehiwela Sri Lanka has agreed to donate 5000 collars for the identification collars for the dogs ! That is one of the oldest organisations of Sri Lanka .It is so remarkable as they have a shelter at 107 ,Kadawatha Road ,Dehiwela and another home at Kahathuduwa. They suggested that it would be better to send rabies vaccine instead money for Tsunami relief for animals. Human rabies cases were increased in 2004 . I inquired about the animals from the Buddhist priests at Galle and Payagala who are in charge of relief centers .They told me that the villagers have accompanied the dogs to the camps and they are feeding them also. There are few dogs which are unreachable.Nobody can reach them .We have been equesting rabies oral vaccine for years to immunise such animals. Oral vaccine is really necessary to immunise the stray dogs and wild animals which are part of the rabies cycle . In some camps at Balapitya Sri lankan chefs who work in hotels in the area are preparing tasty meals for the people. They take turns to do that welfare work. But others are not so lucky. Lankadeepa Saturday15th of January2005 Some people in Galle area are gettting only rice and dhal for breakfast rice and dhal for lunch and rice and dhal for dinner . The reporter has seen that some people were throwing away the food without eating them Kala Santha
