Guest guest
I was visiting the zoo last week-end to check on Kei and take more photographs, when I learned that Kei had been moved. She is now in the caracal's old enclosure (and the caracal is now in Kei's old enclosure)... and they've opened the adjoining enclosures to increase the size. It is hardly adequate for a timber wolf, but it is an improvement, and was made (no doubt) because of ZAP's persistance, and their recent peaceful protest outside the zoo's gates. The pressure is starting to get to the zoo staff. *I have photos of the protest and of the zoo conditions (and video clips) posted online if anyone would like to see them. Please contact me at: voices4animals. During the protest, Greg (ZAP director/founder) and his wife were screamed at by the Zoo Director -- he ranted on and on about how " the whole world " was watching them now, and writing to them - and how could they " ruin their reputation " like that.. etc etc. At the tine of the protest, Kei was in her tiny concrete and plexiglas enclosure. At least now, her feet touch actual " earth " , and she even has plants. WOW. \ I'm very concerned about the Hokkaido Brown Bear - she's old, and has absolutely NOTHING in her enclosure for environmental stimulation. It's just stark concrete (I have photos of this, too). The chimps are totally stressed out and also lack an appropriate enclosure. ALL the animals are in inappropriate enclosures - it's very disturbing. We're still hopeful that Kei will be allowed to retire in a sanctuary. If we can get Kei moved, it can lead to changes for all the animals by bringing awareness to their deplorable enclosures and captive existances. Please sign the petition - and if you already have, please forward it to as many people as you can.
