Guest guest
UPDATE - THUR JAN 13, 2005 - 1300 HRS Chennai: Dr. Sara Winikoff of AVAR, USA has been working at our Chennai Guindy Centre since Tuesday morning. We are indeed most thankful to her having come down from California to help out at this time. Nagapattinam: The Nagapattinam District Collector has ruled that no cattle can be permitted to roam on the streets. They must either be kept tethered by those who are claiming to be their owners or else admitted by them at one of the relief camps set up by the Government. The Blue Cross and Karuna teams there will ensure the feeding and water supply to these animals. We are thankful to the District Administration for doing this since many of the cattle were eating rubbish and plastic. The small animal clininc manned by Clementien Pauws at the Veterinary Hospital is serving the purpose intended. The feeding of dogs in that area also continues. Tomorrow, Friday 14th is Pongal - the harvest festival and the most important in Tamil Nadu. The staff of the Blue Cross who have been in Cuddalore and Nagapattinam want to return to Chennai for the holiday. Unfortunately, we do not have the man power available to replace all of them since work has to continue at Chennai and our other centres. A fresh team are leaving tonight to replace four or five at Nagapattinam who will leave Nagapattinam tonight. Raghavan and Clementien will stay on along with about 10 others who will be joind by Daniel and his team from the Blue Cross tomorrow. We have closed down the Indian Bank storage area and moved everything to the Nagapattinam Veterinary Hospital premises. One ambulance will also be returning to Chennai tomorrow, leaving only one ambulance and the hired trucks there. Thank you for all your support and help - we have most things under some sort of control and are not just lurching from crisis to crisis. S. Chinny Krishna Blue Cross with inputs from Clementien Pauws of Karuna and S. Raghavan, Blue Cross co-ordinator in Nagapattinam.
