A happy reunion At last some news has come to us from Dr Arun in the Kanyakumari district. Arun has been moving methodically village to village as per the list of 33 villages given to him by the District collector. He has been treating and distributing fodder and dry food to dogs and cats in 12 villages so far. At Perayavilai he saw highly traumatized women having lost many of their men folk to the sea. Mary's dog had survived and was treated for dehydration and shock. At Periakadu, Selvam and others like him met Dr Arun to get their goats treated for bloat, nearly 40 goats survived here. Several turkeys and calves escaped having floated on top of thatches ripped off huts. Salinity in the drinking water has given all the animals and humans stomach problems. Liver tonics, antibiotics, de-worming, has been given and wherever people offer to care for the animals medicines are being given to them to continue the treatment. A villager brings his goats for medical treatment..Muthuswamy had refused to leave even when the water came in without his 3 cows and a calf and thinks it is a miracle they all survived. Bore wells and wells continue to be saline. Intravenous fluids administered to many cattle. Treated pet dogs for injuries and poultry. Sister Rosylin of the Marya Rafols Matric High School told us the children being on holiday saved their lives but the school pets, 30 rabbits, 3 cows and 2 calves died. Their pet dogs survived. Wherever it was needed Dr Arun is distributing dry dog feed. He does not report dog biting nor any desire to kill the dogs from the authorities. They came in search of their pet dog and found him after one day .
