Our TV's here in Australia are giving us very good coverage of the problems in

Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India. Many of these countries are

our nearest neighbours and they are popular holiday spots for Australians. Many

Australian tourists have refused to come home on the special flights to get

Australians out of the areas. They have preferred to stay and help people.

Only a few minutes ago the Red Cross announced that the province of Aceh is one

of the most disaster stricken areas in Indonesia. The Royal Australian Air Force

(RAAF) has already flown into various parts of Indonesia and Thailand with

relief (such as water, food, blankets, medicines, water sterilization tablets

etc) and doctors and this morning they are flying into Aceh province to see how

they can help there.

This morning they are also flying to Sri Lanka.

I do wonder how much more the wildlife can take. With the logging, the fires,

the earthquake and now the tidal waves it must be hell.

Approximately a week before the earthquake hit Sumatra, Tasmania had an

earthquake. It is believed that this earthquake in Tasmania shifted the plates

under the earth all the way to Sumatra. At the time of the earthquake in

Tasmania many whales beached themselves.

A team of 14 Australian forensic scientists are flying out this morning to help

with identification of the bodies and mass graves the size of a hectacre each

are being made.

Red Cross are also flying Australians out into these areas to help.

There have been some good stories coming through about people trying to save

their domestic animals but so far nothing about the wildlife even though there

is no doubt in my mind many wildlife including orangutans have suffered greatly.

If we hear news of wildlife I will send it on to all.
