Guest guest Posted October 6, 2004 Report Share Posted October 6, 2004 On Saturday late evening People For Animals Ludhiana Got information that a Hiran (Deer) Fawn has been kept in captivity in village Jagirpur on Rahon Road, Ludhiana, with intention to slaughter it. P.F.A. team went there at night and tried to contact forest officials. As keeping wildlife in captivity is an offence under the provisions of wildlife Protection Act 1972(amended 2003), Police was also informed. The fawn was kept by Malkiat Singh and his son & others in Malkiat Singhs’ House. Some persons informed that the fawn was captured by them with the help of few other persons few days ago. The Animal was kept badly and was tied from both of its legs. There were fresh as well as old injuries on its legs, back and its ears were torn. This Male fawn is about Six months age and has been identified as cheetal fawn.The animal is still under shock . Treatment, fodder and water were provided to it and is presently at Animals and Birds’ shelter Jeev Kalyan Kendra & Bhagwan Mahavir Abhayshala, maintained by People For Animals Ludhiana, under intimation to Divisional Forest Officer, Ludhiana. Forest dept. has been asked to book the offenders and rehabilitate the animal at some Deer Park.Forest officials have asked P.F.A. to provide necessary vety.care to the rescued animal.
