Agencies should get their act together

 

 

I REFER to your front-page report, <a

I am disappointed and sad at the finger-pointing and lack of accountability of

the parties involved.

 

The admission by state Drainage and Irrigation Department director Datuk Wong

Kok Fiu that his department does not monitor the rivers regularly as there are

“so many rivers in Selangor” is simply appalling.

 

Just because a task is “difficult” is no excuse why proper monitoring is not

done.

 

It is the same with district council president Amin Jaya Mohd Din who does not

know “what’s happening upstream.”

 

It seems the very people entrusted with safeguarding one of nature’s beautiful

wonders, not to mention a source of income to the villagers nearby and main

tourist attraction, are too cosy sitting in their air-conditioned offices.

 

If none of the relevant departments is responsible, who is? And what are these

relevant departments responsible for?

 

What we need is an “outside the box” thinking and approach. Instead of pointing

fingers, the relevant parties should get their act together and co-ordinate each

other's roles in ensuring that what Mother Nature has entrusted to us will not

simply disappear.
