11 people jailed over monkey trading case

A Chinese court has sentenced 11 people to jail terms of up to 14 years for their role in the country's biggest illegal monkey trading case.The defendants were found guilty of buying more than one-and-a-half thousand rhesus monkeys from farmers in central Anhui province in 2001 and 2002. Their final sales destination was not revealed but environmental groups say demand from the United States, Japan and Russia is high and thousands are exported abroad every year.
