The daily said the residents were happy that the Subang Jaya Municipal Council had proposed a condition that those planning to keep pet dogs must get permission from their neighbours & #150; not just those living next door but also those living in houses in front and at the back of their homes. The paper quoted the council & #039;s public relations unit as saying, however, that because there were also people who opposed the move, it would not be implemented immediately. The council said the proposal followed complaints from residents of all races on disturbances caused by neighbours who kept dogs. About 48.5% of the complainants were Malays, 42.11% were Chinese and 8.38% were Indians. The paper also reported the objection of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) to the use of the word infotainmen in the RTM tagline Saluran Infotainmen Anda (Your Infotainment Channel). The DPB argued that the word & #150; coined from the words & #147;information & #148; and & #147;entertainment & #148; & #150; had no Malay basis and suggested using the word infohibur or inforia instead. & #147;DBP disagrees with the word because it corrupts the Malay language and comes at a time when there is heated discussion on bahasa rojak (a language that is mixed with other languages), & #148; DBP dictionary department chief Noresah Baharom said. Deputy Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin disagreed, saying the word infotainmen was not a corruption of the Malay language. It meant & #147;entertaining information & #148; more accurately than any other Malay word, he said. <p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2003 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
