Guest guest
I have received several photos of the seizure from Edwin Wiek. If anyone would like copies, send me a private e-mail. The crates were appalling. This whole situation appears to have resulted from the fight led by the Indonesian government and Willie Smits to get 100 orangutans smuggled into Thailand to a Bornean rehab center. There are about 20 adult orangutans at Safari World as well as the 100 or so youngsters. I don't think so many orangutans have ever been amassed before. It is not known who brought them into Thailand but some years ago a powerful Thai dealer brought in a group of colobus monkeys from Tanzania, most of whom died or were killed by Thai authorities. The difference is that you never know how much is in the bank, or what your balance is. Your life is your inheritance.
