This would lead to a national inventory of the number and types of animals kept by these outfits, seen as a long-awaited move to start anew on the tardy documentation of animal collection outside official zoos (like Zoo Negara and the Malacca Zoo). & #147;The inventory will help us start on a clean slate in monitoring animal collections in the country, be it for commercial enterprises or for private keeping, & #148; said Perhilitan enforcement officer Misliah Mohamed Bashir. The inventory would likely start in September and the data would come in handy for inspection of the private zoos and collections once the updates are completed, Misliah told The Star. Under the Wildlife Protection Act, the keeping of wild animals requires an annual licence from Perhilitan. & #147;If the owners cannot produce the required documents to show that the specimens they are holding originate from legal sources, we will have to confiscate these animals, & #148; Misliah said. <p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2003 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
