Guest guest
new information from Anti Vivisection Action Network in Japan. http://www.ava-net.net/english/en-mon2.html Deaths not related to animal experimentation We used the Freedom of Information Act to acquire information about animal experimentation conducted in the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University. This national facility keeps many primates for experimentation. We acquired information about deaths not related to experimentation. (In 2003, 47 animals died because of reasons not related to experimentation.) 1. Rhesus macaque (female/5 months old) It seems that she died because her right hand became stuck between perches in the free enclosure. The perches are 4-5 meters in height. 2. Rhesus macaque (male/4 months old) He was found dead in the enclosure. The monkey was found hanging by a rope around its neck. When the staff entered the enclosure to pick up his body, his mother took him and ran away. The staff chased her to get him. This case was an accident. However, it was found later that he had caught pneumonia. 3. Japanese macaque (male/9 years and 4 months old) The monkey was moved into a new enclosure. (Researchers may be planning to use him for a bio-resource project. [space]¢¨AVA-Net) When he was put in the enclosure, a wound was found on his left thigh. The staff anesthetized him. After treating his wound, they found him dead in the cage next day.
