So upset were Selangor SPCA animal inspector Sabrina Yeap and volunteer inspector Pat Lim that they chanted & #147;Save Tim & #148; outside a magistrate & #039;s court hearing the case yesterday. Chiew Shwe Lee, 44, had pleaded guilty to hurting one-year-old Tim on May 21 & #150; an offence carrying the maximum fine of RM200 and six months jail. Magistrate Tasnim Abu Bakar, after inspecting Tim & #039;s condition at the court & #039;s car park, granted Chiew custody of the black-coloured dog. He also ordered Chiew to settle the RM490.35 medical cost incurred by the Selangor Veterinary Department in treating a 10cm wound on Tim & #039;s neck which was caused by a chain. Yeap said the matter was not over and planned to appeal the decision to return the dog to the owner. & #147;We want to find him a good home where love would be showered on him. & #147;We now fear for Tim & #146;s safety if he is returned to the owner. & #147;We want the Veterinary Department in Shah Alam to issue a stern warning to Chiew not to abuse the dog until our appeal is heard, & #148; she said. Those who were at the court were seen acknowledging the efforts of the department & #039;s enforcement officer P. Mariappan, Yeap and Lim for doing something to save a dog. On Monday, another dog abuse case in Kuala Lumpur saw the magistrate & #039;s court fining dog owner Francis Xav Lau Choo Kee the maximum RM200 for abusing 13 pedigree dogs under his charge. Yeap is also leading an appeal against that decision. <p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2003 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
