National policy on biodiversity

 

 

Vision: “To transform Malaysia into a world centre of excellence in

conservation, research and utilisation of tropical biodiversity by the year

2020.”

 

 

 

Policy statement: “To conserve Malaysia & #8217;s biological diversity and to

ensure that its components are utilised in a sustainable manner for the

continued progress and socio-economic development of the nation.”

 

 

 

Objectives: Economic benefits from biodiversity, food security, environmental

integrity and stability, national biological heritage, scientific, educational

and recreational values, biosafety and biotechnology.

 

 

 

It outlines 14 strategies and 86 action plans to manage biodiversity. Among

them: improve knowledge and research, enhance use of biodiversity, improve

institutional framework, strengthen conservation programmes, integrate

biodiversity considerations into planning, enhance skills and capability, review

legislations, minimise human impact on biodiversity, improve international

co-operation and funding.
