Guest guest
The written account of butchering livestock at a Chinese market was quite detailed and vividly written. The experience of a newcomer to a public market slaughter area is sometimes startling and eye-opening. I think the writer was more impressed with the livestock being dogs than anything. I love dogs as pets, but understand they join goats, sheep, civets, and other small game abroad. More people should see (and participate) in slaughter if they are going to consume meat--at least their decision to eat it will be informed by experience with the process. Guest guest
Being a vegetarian I agree with Jonathan - if everyone was forced to participate in the killing of the flesh they eat, both the ranks of the vegetarians would swell and the (kind) meat-eaters would hold the butchers/industries/Govts. much more accountable for the cruelty going on in the meat industry in EVERY country of the world. I think the answer is that meat-eaters (those who really feel they can't live without it, should consume (for health and moral) purposes one 10th of the amount of flesh they do today and the cost should go up proportionately and the conditions for raising and slaughtering livestock should improve proportionately too. My 2 cents worth. Happy New Year.
