The animals were found in a house in the Xuan Hung commune of the Mekong Delta province of Dong Nai. Half the haul was made up of live animals, including porcupines, tortoises, snakes, monkeys, wild boar, lizards and endangered pangolins. The animal trafficking network began operating in 1998, buying animals from hunters in the two central provinces of Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan and selling them to restaurants and traders in Ho Chi Minh City and its surrounds.
