Guest guest
Hello to all: I'm forwarding a reply I received from PETA, in hope of helping animals. Please help. PV ------------- RE: (URGENT) Fwd: FWD: Animal trade resumes 11/21/03 12:54:12 PM Eastern Standard Time JamesE (James Estevez) PV1mail Thank you so much for your note and your concern about the cruel treatment of dogs and cats in Asia, where they are commonly used as food. Dogs are strung up and beaten before being killed, and cats are sometimes boiled alive. Dogs are raised for consumption in crowded cages under filthy conditions on dog " farms. " They are crammed into trucks so tightly that their limbs often snap like twigs under the weight of other terrified animals during transport to market. As if this weren't bad enough, the dogs are usually tortured and violently beaten prior to slaughter in order to increase the flow of adrenaline which, unbelievably, is claimed to improve the flavor of the meat and increase the virility of men who eat it. Finally, the dogs endure the horror of having their throats slit while still fully conscious. News reports confirm that cats are also kept under the same horrendous conditions in markets. According to the report, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals states that " cats are placed into boiling water while they are still alive. They are basically boiled to death over a long period ... using pressure cookers. " Although some laws technically prohibit cruelty to companion animals and denounce the consumption of dogs, these laws are often unenforced. Sadly, the cruel treatment of these animals is all too common. What you can do: It is important to let ambassadors in your country know that you are opposed to inhumane treatment of animals killed for food. Please contact the following officials and politely urge them to develop enforceable animal protection laws that explicitly prohibit the beating, boiling, and other torture of dogs and cats prior to slaughter.
