In order to allow foie gras industry workers time to find alternative employment, the court has given the foie gras industry two years to shut down their operations. The ban on force-feeding will be implemented in 2005. " Perhaps the most powerful impact of this ruling is that it firmly establishes that farming practices are not excluded from the national cruelty law in Israel, " said USA Director Laura Salter. " Too often farm animals have less protection than companion animals. This ruling sets a precedent that could have a substantial effect on other forms of farm cruelty. Dolphin crisis in Solomon Islands WSPA is rallying support to help approximately 200 dolphins that have been captured from the wild off the coast of the Solomon Islands near Australia. Foreign business interests have reportedly paid local fisherman several hundred dollars for each dolphin captured as part of a scheme to export the animals to marine parks around the world. WSPA is repeating its calls for authorities to intervene, prevent any additional captures and return the animals to the wild. Despite public protests, international media scrutiny and the highly questionable legality of the captures, 28 dolphins were recently shipped to Mexico, where one of the dolphins died soon after arrival. Authorities in Mexico have suspended further dolphin imports from the Solomons while all of the legal questions are being examined. To learn more about these dolphins and how you can help to protect them, go to http://www.freethedolphins.org. Workplace giving works!
