Ban on animal sacrifice

RAJASTHAN HIGH COURT ORDERS BAN ON ANIMAL SACRIFICE

Hearing a public interest petition filed by Prani Mitra Sansthan, a

non-Government organisation devoted to animal welfare, the Rajasthan High

Court ordered a strict ban to be imposed with immediate effect on the

sacrifice of animals, particularly goats, in different Hindu temples at

Jaisalmer. Such orders were promulgated earlier also in the year 1999 by the

Hon'ble High Court but these were not taken seriously and the practice of

killing animals on the pretext of sacrificing them to please gods and

goddesses continued. The petitioners had obtained sufficient information

including actual photographs of the places where killing was carried out for

presentation before the Court.
