Your help is needed! Please read the article below, and the sample letter

supplied. I am asking that everyone get involved in this issue. It doesn’t

matter where you live; we need letters/faxes from all over the world. You can

use the sample letter, change it to suit yourself, or write your own. Please be

respectful, as the Taiwan government has made an effort to protect the animals.

They seems to care how their country is perceived in the eyes of the world, so

it is wise to use this issue when communicating and be sure to add your address

and country to your signature. Although they are considered The Republic of

China, they are in the process of distancing themselves from China, and seem to

genuinely want to be different.

Please send your letters asap and if possible, send them more than once on

different days. As you will see, dogs on Wu Chu Island are suffering an

incredible amount of torture at the hands of the Taiwanese military. This is a

simple letter writing campaign, and the chances of stopping this atrocity are

very high, if EVERYONE sends their letters.

TAIWAN MILITARY ROUTINELY ABUSE DOGS FOR PLEASURE

It is a normal sight in Wu-Chu, Taiwan, to see soldiers and officers being

extremely cruel to stray dogs.

Many newer soldiers on Wu-Chu Island which is distanced from the main-island,

used only for military purposes, cannot tolerate the cruelty of their fellow

soldiers and officers, so they sneaked anonymous reports out of the site, to the

International Care Association of Taiwanese Stray Dogs. Their courage is to be

honored, for dog-abuse has become a tradition in Wu-Qiu and the ones who report

such abuse would be considered a trader and punished by their officers;

therefore, no photographic evidence can be obtained.

 

International Care Association of Taiwanese Stray Dogs wrote the Department of

Agriculture and the Department of Defense to urge them to stop dog abuse in

Wu-Chu, for the reports show that dog-abuse dramatically increased in both

number and cruelty in the past six months.

Dear

 

I have chosen to send the following letter, because it accurately describes the

way I feel about this issue.

 

I am writing to you because of my concern and outrage, over the brutal and

senseless behavior of the Taiwan military on the Island of Wu-Chu. It has come

to the attention of caring people around the world, that Taiwan soldiers and

officers are torturing and brutally killing stray dogs.

 

A rescue worker, who has been following and documenting this atrocity, stated

that according to reports, most soldiers in Wu-Qiu not only batter stray dogs of

different sizes and ages, they torture the dogs with an unimaginable degree of

cruelty.

 

For example, it is a daily habit for most soldiers to tie the front legs of dogs

to a training bar, for the purpose of using the dogs as sandbags, punching them

to train their arm-strength. Another soldier reported seeing an officer swinging

a 3 or 4-month-old puppy into the air. Some soldiers tie plastic bags around the

dogs' heads, light the bags on fire so the chemicals burn and the plastic melts,

which sticks onto the dog’s fur and skin. The pain and shock make the poor dogs

run all over the place, screaming in pain, while soldiers laugh at them and

enjoy this " official evening entertainment. "

 

The latest of these reports stated that there is a notice in Wu-Chu that

" Someone who out ranks everyone on the military site " ordered the soldiers to

fix the problem of the overpopulation of stray dogs in Wu-Qiu, and the

officially decided solution, is to " Bury alive the big ones, make soup out of

the small ones! "

 

To make matters worse, we have learned that any soldier who cannot tolerate the

cruelty, are made to keep quiet about the barbaric behavior of their fellow

soldiers and officers, or they will be severely punished! These soldiers should

be commended and rewarded for their compassion and morality! These are the men

who will make the Taiwan military strong and deserving of the respect of other

nations.

 

Many studies have shown that there is an unmistakable connection between animal

abuse and subsequent violence to humans. These studies point to the importance

of taking animal cruelty laws seriously, and strictly enforcing them. Such a

course of action is absolutely essential in order to identify persons capable of

such violent acts against helpless animals and people, and to protect innocent

law abiding citizens. Military personnel must be held to an even higher standard

of morality, and compassion.

 

Therefore, I ask for your immediate and dedicated efforts in putting an end to

this barbaric behavior and to find, arrest and prosecute to the fullest extent

of the law, the soldiers and officers responsible for the torture, mutilation

and death of these animals. The animals which have already been abused must have

medical help, and as a solution to the homeless animal problem, a qualified vet

should capture and spay/neuter all homeless animals, to keep them from

multiplying. As a society you must call a halt to the acceptance of animal

cruelty, and enforce a policy of harsh punishment for these sadistic crimes. The

military of any country should be a model of compassion and an example in

upholding the law for their country’s citizens and for the world to see. As the

Armed forces of the United States and their allies have shown during the Iraqi

war, men can be both good soldiers and compassionate, caring humans. While the

Iraqi army abused and tortured the animals, the US and allied

soldiers saved and protected them! The world knows how cruel Saddam Hussein’s

army was to the citizens of Iraq, and even their own families.

 

It was only five years ago that the worlds citizens applauded the Taiwan

government, for drawing up and passing an animal protection law, and it was not

long ago, that we commended and applauded the governments efforts to enforce

this law. You have set yourself apart from the animal cruelty seen every day in

China, and other parts of Asia and have rid Taiwan of the stigma of being a

barbaric, backward Nation by the way it treats it’s animals. Please do not take

a step backward, by allowing this barbarism to continue. Once again the world is

waiting to see if Taiwan will stand up to the expectations of it’s foreign

neighbors, and stand with the compassionate world community in the moral issue

of protecting and caring for it’s defenseless animals.
