In south-western Tibet Autonomous Region, the number had increased to over 100,000 from 70,000 in 1997, said its forest bureau's wild animal protection section recently. Tibetan antelopes are under state protection in China and the government has set up state-level nature reserves in Hoh Xil and Sanjiangyuan in the north-western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Investigations have shown that Tibet is a leading habitat for Tibetan antelopes. The region has also beefed up its co-operation with neighbouring provinces and regions in cracking down on poaching. – People's Daily
For Another perspective from the China Daily, a partner of Asia News Network, click here

________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2003 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
