THE TIMES OF INDIA SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2003 01:54:38 AM New method to tackle dog menace in city TIMES NEWS NETWORK HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh and the Blue Cross Society have advocated that the government adopt the Mc Kee Project model for effective control of animal population. The Mc Kee programme is community based and does not use shelters. The programme enlists the services of pro-active people to solve the stray animal problems. If communities were not part of the solution, animals would never lead better lives. This is the premise of the programme. Stray animals are sterilised by involving local people and distributing the costs among the community as they cannot be cut down. Involving politicians who have a good say among the people would also help in addressing the problem, said Costa Rica (Latin America) based Mc Kee Project executive director Dr Gerado Yayo Vicente S, at a workshop organised by the animal husbandry department, Blue Cross and Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh. -- --
