Guest guest
From Sue Cho, KAPS/IAKA UK On 17th July this year (a day after the World demo day for Korean dogs and cats), Korea Animal Protection Society also held a demonstration in the University Road in Seoul where many young people gather for meeting. The demo was called " Rally for strengthening Korean animal protection law and banning the use of dogs and cats for human consumption and medicine " The protest included 8 different Korean animal organisations including KAPS. KAPS made a few posters for the event, which showed KAPS staff with the dogs and cats in the sanctuary. The pictures included innocent and adorable Korean yellow dogs (the dogs often regarded as food dogs by the dog eaters) playing in KAPS' sanctuary and a picuture of a yellow dog just rescued from the dog meat market and the picture of the rescue process. KAPS also displayed on the road many quality pictures which showed the cruelty to dogs and cats in the market and countryside. Many journalists from TV, newspaper and magazine came to the protest and showed their sympathy for our cause. However, even though these journalists were sympathetic, they were unsure if their reports would be printed as the Korean media at the editorial level still didn't like showing the reality of animal cruelty in Korea. One positive change was that the journalists wanted to photograph yellow dogs, Korea's native dogs, who the dog eaters often claim tastier and less smart than the imported dogs and therefore took the brunt of the cruel practice. They wished to tell the public that eating such innocent and affectionate animals was wrong by showing what lovely animals they are. KAPS regretted the fact that they couldn't bring the dogs rescued from the market to the Seoul demo as the weather was very hot and it was a long journey. All those from KAPS wished that the heartbreaking plight of Korean dogs and cats would end as soon as possible for the sake of caring animal lovers and the animals suffering incredible pain. ===== Friends of dogs http://www.friendsofdogs.net Dogs brighten our life with their gift to love and bond.
