Guest guest Posted June 25, 2003 Report Share Posted June 25, 2003 `Lankadeepa ` 24th of June Annual Esala procession start from 29th July to 12 th of August at Kataragama Kovil .Public health Inspector of the Kataragam local authority has informed that 262 stray dogs were killed this year .At present as there is a scarcity of chemicals to kill dogs.Because of that they have stopped killing dogs.A Buddhist priest and the person who in charge of Kataragma Kovil and many government officers were present for the meeting When Lankadeepa journalists inquire from the Provincial Director Shelton Chandrasiri he said that many people come to hospitals to get treatment for stray dog bites . ..There are not enough vet surgeons to sterilize dogs and many organisatrions speak against killing of dogs but there is no body to protect the people from stray dogs.
