Taiwan skipper jailed for slaughtering dolphins

 

A Taiwan boat skipper has been sentenced to eight

months in jail after he captured and killed five

protected dolphins.

 

The China Times Express newspaper said Chen Yi-chin,

41, captain of the Penghu-based " Ching Chang I "

fishing boat was handed the sentence.

 

Three Taiwanese and five Chinese crewmen were also

sentenced to seven months, suspended for three years.

 

The suspects were caught by coastguards red-handed on

January 11 after they captured the five dolphins in

waters off the Penghus, which lie between Taiwan and

mainland China.
