Speak Up for the Animals on Capitol Hill!

> The Fund for Animals is sponsoring this year's Lobby Day at the Animal

> Rights 2003 annual conference in Washington, D.C. If you attend the

> conference, you have a rare opportunity to visit the staff of your

> U.S. Representative and Senators and voice your support for pro-animal

> legislation on Wednesday morning, July 2.

>

> Not only is a trip to Capitol Hill the perfect way to round out your

> AR2003 experience, it is also a wonderful opportunity to introduce

> yourself to your legislators (or their staff). At your meetings, you

> can express your concern for animals, help advance this year's federal

> legislation, and begin an ongoing relationship with your

> representatives. Visits from constituents are amazingly important to

> the success of a bill, as are the letters and telephone calls that you

> can follow-up with after you return home. Your federal legislators

> need to hear how important humane legislation is to you!

>

> Prior lobbying experience is not needed to participate in Lobby Day.

> Before we accompany you to Capitol Hill, we will meet with you to

> discuss lobbying tactics, provide you with legislative briefing

> packets, and fill you in on the status of pro-animal legislation. All

> it takes is the desire to make an impact on the federal laws that

> affect the lives of animals everywhere!

>

> Please take the following steps to reserve your place at this year's

> Lobby Day:

>

> 1. COMMIT to coming to Lobby Day. Email Rebecca Frye at The Fund for

> Animals at rfrye (or call her at 301.585.2591 Ext., 209) to

> register for Lobby Day. Please include your name, address, and phone

> number to enable us to get information to you.

>

> 2. SET UP your appointments now. You have one House Representative and

> two Senators. Simply use The Fund for Animals' legislator lookup tool

> at http://action.fund.org/directory -- enter your home address to find

> out who your federal legislators are and how to contact them. When you

> call, tell the receptionist that you are a constituent who will be in

> Washington, D.C. on the morning of July 2 and that you would like to

> meet for 15 minutes -- between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and noon --

> with the legislative staffer who handles animal or environmental

> issues. Make your appointments as soon as possible to guarantee that

> you will be able to meet with someone! Call or email The Fund if you

> need help setting up meetings.

>

> 3. LET US KNOW via email to rfrye (or phone at 301.585.2591

> Ext., 209) as soon as your appointments are set. Please include the

> time and with whom they are scheduled.

>

> That's all there is to it. We hope we hear from each and every one of

> you and we look forward to meeting you at AR2003. There is nothing

> like going to Capitol Hill yourself and actively participating in the

> process of change for animals!

>

> Remember, please make your appointments ASAP and let us know that you

> have done so by RSVPing. Sign up now and we'll see you at Lobby Day!
