Guest guest
Man denies shooting dog with arrow A QUINNS ROCKS man pleaded not guilty in a Perth court today to maliciously wounding a dog, which allegedly was found cowering in a backyard with an arrow through the side of its head. RSPCA inspectors allege Peter Oliver Turner, 28, had used the animal as target practice. The animal welfare group, which charged Mr Turner with maliciously wounding a dog, alleged the young husky-cross was found cowering in a neighbour's yard with the arrow still protruding from its skull. Outside court, an RSPCA spokeswoman said an X-ray at a veterinary clinic revealed a second arrow head embedded in the dog's hind quarter, which was removed at the surgery. Animal welfare inspectors found the dog, named Jay, on April 29 at Mr Turner's neighbours' house, in Quinns Rocks. The officers collared the dog and treated the head wound. Mr Turner appeared in Joondalup magistrates court today. The case was remanded until July 8. The charge was laid by the RSPCA under new WA animal cruelty laws. It carries a maximum penalty of $50,000 and/or five years jail. " It's an appalling act of animal cruelty. It appears that the dog has been hunted because it's been shot more than once, " RSPCA spokeswoman Kelly Oversby said outside court.
