fARMERS PROTESTED AGAINST THE proposed tOURIST HOTEL

A Sri lankan who lives in the United States is trying to get permission to

build a tourist hotel in the catchment area of the Hibiliyakada lake.This

area is close to the Wasgomuwa National sanctuary.

It was reported that the this person didn`t provide the correct information

and they have misled the authorities of the Environment and wild life

conservation officers.They want to bulid large number of buildings and

swimming pools.

One lady a farmer`s wife called Mrs.Hariot Harmy has spoken to the

Lankadeepa news paper and said `We wil not allow them to build this hotel

..Our children will not be able to walk on the road or bathe in the river.Our

ancestors protected the lake as a treasure.We request all the officers that

this treasure should not be destroyed allowing foreigners to use them

B.G.Gunathilake a farmer said ` they will not allow this to happen as this

will destroy the values and culture of the indigenous village.

Central Environment authority and the Department of Wildlife has pointed out

that this place is not a suitable place for a hotel

The farmers are doubtful as this person is trying to mislead the officers

and get the permission to build the hotel.
