Louisiana State University Medical School continues

to use dogs in cruel and outdated physiology

exercises despite the existence of humane and more

effective alternatives. According to complainants,

there were three laboratory exercises conducted last

year that resulted in the deaths of at least 80

dogs. The complainants described the labs as

" unnecessary, damaging, " and so useless that they

are seen as " a big joke around school. " In addition,

students responsible for monitoring anesthesia

admitted to having " no clue " as to what they were

doing. As a result, dogs who had their chests sawn

open and who were repeatedly subjected to having

their hearts fibrillated and de-fibrillated

reportedly awoke crying.

Prestigious Harvard Medical School, along with a

majority of medical schools in North America, has

done away with animal labs. Students who used to

learn how certain drugs affect the body by

participating in " dog labs " now learn by observing

heart bypass surgeries in Boston-area hospitals.

Louisiana State University and ask him to implement
