KAPS collected over 10,000 signatures from Koreans

against dog and cat meat. Other Korea animal

protection also collected signatures against dog meat.

The petitions were thoroughly ignored by the

government. KAPS will continue to pressurise the

government within Korea. We need to pressurise the

Korean government from all angles.

Dear members of Korea Animal Protection Society and

animal lovers

There are so many miseries suffered by animals in

Korea. Cows tied to a rope attached to the back of a

truck and then dragged around, after being force-fed

excessive amount water. Chickens filed on top of each

other in a wire cage like plates on shelves while

waiting for their death. You must have heard and seen

such a wretched scene at least once.

While the plight of these animals continues to remain

ignored, some of our politicians, media and people now

would like to see even the dogs, the animals closest

to many people's hearts, included in the list of

livestock animals. It's selfish enough to eat animals

whose slaughter is legal in the eyes of the law.

Instead of making significant efforts to vigorously

enforce laws banning cruelty to our livestock animals

thereby improving the condition of these animals,

heartless people in our society try to legalise the

consumption of dogs, highly intelligent and fiercely

loyal animals. This is immoral.

Currently the ideas of animal protection in our

country are not well established. While there are

voices for protecting environments and loving life,

animals continue to suffer. There are also many people

who try to rationalise dog meat industry.

Children of this world can love animals and admire

life from doing so regardless of their various

tradition and religion. Dogs and cats are the animals

that teach children to experience the wonder of life,

as they are easy to approach and nearest to us. It is

culturally conservative and ill-educated adults who

prevent our children from loving animals.

We are not suggesting that we should love dogs and

cats only. We are stating the simple truth that they

are the bridge in enabling people to extend their

compassion to cows, pigs, chickens and wildlife.

Through their interaction with these loving animals,

people learn that animals also have feelings and

deserve respect and compassion.

Our organisation has been campaigning for dogs and

cats who have been closest companions to humans and

teach humans responsibility towards animals and love

for all life. We have been sending protest letters to

various government departments and media. We have also

been collecting signatures for a petition for

expelling dog and cat meat from our society. If you

would like to participate in the petition, please

contact us. We would appreciate it if you could send

back signed petitions to us.

Dogs brighten our life with their gift to love and bond. It is our turn to help

our dogs. Please help organisations who are fighting to get dogs out of food

chain.
