Guest guest Posted March 18, 2003 Report Share Posted March 18, 2003 JOB: WCS-IP, Sulawesi seeks an Advocacy and Extension Officer The goal of the Wildlife Conservation Society - Indonesia Program (WCS-IP) is to conserve Indonesia's wildlife populations and their habitats. The program aims to maintain viable wildlife populations by using several approaches: Research: providing Indonesia with reliable and relevant data Training: providing Indonesia with knowledgeable, motivated conservationists Implementation: assisting local stakeholders including the Government and non-Government groups of Indonesia to protect their natural heritage Education: disseminating the information gathered to the widest possible audience to develop local and international support for conservation measures. The training and extension officer shall work for the WCS – IP, Sulawesi to assist the project manager in two main areas: to train local NGO members, university students, and protected areas personnel and to liase with government agencies, universities, local NGOs, and communities. The training and extension officer will be based in Manado. DUTIES 1. Liaise and implement agreements with regional partner organizations, such as NGOs and government agencies. 2. Assist the project manager to organize and carry out workshops and seminars. 3. Give presentations to government agencies, universities, local NGOs and communities. 4. Help develop and implement the current training program used by WCS in Sulawesi. Students will come from local NGOs, universities, and government agencies. 5. Produce popular, scientific and technical (reports) publications as well as produce awareness materials for communities, government agencies, and popular media. 6. Work as part of a team to plan, implement, monitor and periodically update WCS strategic approach to conservation in Sulawesi. QUALIFICATIONS A successful candidate must demonstrate skills and experience in biodiversity with the following qualifications: 1. Have at least 3 years experience in conservation issues in Indonesia 2. Have at least an undergraduate degree (S1) in one of the following disciplines forestry, biology/ecology, law, political science, environmental science/policy or other related discipline 3. Be able to give public presentations in Indonesian 4. Be able to conduct/moderate meetings and workshops with many stakeholders in both Indonesian and English 5. Be able to write reports, proposals, and articles in Indonesian, and to translate documents from English to Indonesian 6. Have a strong understanding of scientific, legal, and political basis of conservation. 7.
