PLEASE CROSSPOST ! A couple of weeks ago We sent out this appeal ( see below ) ... Now the animals have some breathing space but only a little ! IF WE ACT NOW PERHAPS WE CAN SAVE THEM ! There is time ! They still haven't decided yet what to do with them, so we are suggesting that people send emails to them saying that they must put the cows either in a sanctuary or in a natural reserve. Spain has lots of natural reserves. Please write ! Junta de Castilla y León Fdo.: José Valín Alonso CONSEJERO DE AGRICULTURA Y GANADERÍA. LEON, ANOTHER SHAMELESS MASSACRE OF ANIMALS IN THE HANDS OF HUNTERS The Council of Agriculture of Castilla and Leon have given permits to hunt 250 abandoned cows. To date 70 cows, calves and bulls that were in the fields of the area of La Cabrera, have been shot to death. According to the newspaper " El Pais " dated 3.3.2003 the spectacle was terrifying: " The animals rolled in the fields more than 400 meters. Many of them screamed with pain until the hunters used a firearm to terminate them, some of them suffering hours till death gave them peace. There were pregnant cows and also baby cows....... " According to the same source, the continuation of the hunt is scheduled for next week. The Spanish Authorities don't give a damn for the welfare of animals and show contempt for the animal protection laws.
