Communications Coordinator Fauna & Flora International - Sumatran Elephant Conservation Programme (FFI-SECP) invites applications for the position of Communications Coordinator, based in Banda Aceh, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam FFI's mission is to conserve threatened species and ecosystems world-wide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, are based on sound science and take account of human needs. The Indonesia Programme currently has projects in Sumatra and West Java focusing on flagship species, as a basis on which to develop landscape and ecosystem scale conservation projects. The objective of the Sumatran Elephant Conservation Programme is to protect remaining forest habitat and conserve threatened species populations in Aceh, using the elephant as a flagship. The programme is working to achieve this by conservation of the extensive tracts of forest outside the protected area, securing connectivity between habitats and taking action to resolve increasing human elephant conflict problems. The activities of the programme, towards this objective, include: biodiversity and landscape survey, mapping and threat assessment, promoting protection of key habitat areas and awareness raising amongst stakeholders. FFI-SECP activities are being implemented by a team of approximately 30 staff, volunteers and with several partner organisations. The Communications Coordinator will direct and manage FFI-SECP's Communications activities, and will also work as an active part of the FFI-SECP Senior Management Team contributing to the strategic development of the organisation and its activities. Areas of prime responsibility will include developing an awareness strategy and coordinating, implementing and monitoring communication activities to achieve programme objectives and deliverables. Applicants should have: · at least three years of relevant experience in Communication activities · excellent verbal and written communication skills · English and Bahasa Indonesia fluency · experience managing a team and budget · ability to work individually, but as part of a team. The contract for this position is initially for 6 months, with a three month probationary period and a salary scale of Rp 3,200,000 - 4,000,000. The Communications Cluster is concerned with developing and applying skills and techniques to both assess and influence the opinion of key stakeholders through a range of awareness activities with respect to elephant conservation. In addition, the Communications Coordinator will work as an active part of the FFI-SECP Senior Management Team contributing to the strategic development of the organisation and its activities. Main Responsibilities: · Development of an effective awareness strategy to influence the opinion of key stakeholders and target audience with the respect to elephant conservation in Aceh. · Coordinate, implement and monitor programme activities including, key stakeholder meetings and workshops at district and village levels, radio talk shows and television media coverage. · Coordination and final drafting of FFI-SECP's quarterly publication. · Supervising the production of promotional and outreach material. · Manage, support and assist a small team of programme staff and volunteers. · Develop and maintain the FFI-SECP network, amongst key stakeholders, government representatives, other conservation NGOs and public media. · Contribute to the strategic development of the organisation and its activities. · Prepare and agree work-plans and budget plans. · Evaluate activity terms of reference and budget breakdowns. · Prepare quarterly reports of cluster activities and activity financial reports. · Assist in the preparation of annual reports and technical memorandums. · Conduct staff performance evaluations. Essential Selection Criteria: 1. Minimum of a university degree, preferably in Communications, Public Relations or Social Science. 2. At least three years experience in relevant Communications related activities. 3. Demonstrated skills in the development of an awareness strategy programme and coordination and implementation of communication activities. 4. Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Bahasa Indonesia. 5. Experience managing a small team. 6. Ability to be a cooperative team player, motivating and involving others, yet is also able to work independently. 7. Computer skills, including the operation of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email software. 8. Ability to work under pressure with both time and budget constraints. 9. Willingness and ability to travel frequently to the field and occasionally to the FFI-SECP Medan office when required. Desirable Selection Criteria: 1. Awareness of/interest in nature conservation 2.
