What are the required interrelated roles of NGOs and Government? How are NGOs to survive and continue/ develop their work?) Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong Government ( AFCD ); The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals, Hong Kong ( SPCA HK ), Animals Asia Foundation ( AAF ) and Animal People. Dates Conference 7th - 9th May 2003. Hong Kong Forum 10th May 2003 Programme The conference is to comprise 2 parts : 1) Conference and 2) China/ Hong Kong Public forum. 1) Conference It is hoped to garner both public and private sector professionals, and lay people from around Asia and the Pacific rim to attend, particularly those who are involved/interested in animal welfare issues; those who which to learn more and those who may want to contribute to improving/ alleviating situations in their own or other sovereign states. The conference will be organised over a Hong Kong public holiday and a Saturday to facilitate public attendance. Government representatives will be invited by the AFCD to attend and will participate in the forum as a whole. However, ample opportunity will be afforded them to meet with their government counterparts, NGO management and other experts in the field of animal welfare. For non-Cantonese/ mandarin speakers, visits can be made to the SPCA Hong Kong, Government facilities and Kadoorie Farm on the Saturday.
