Guest guest
Urgent: Stop the legalization of incurable hemorrhagic disease on food baits to kill animals in Australia ************************************************************************ ******** Please send an email to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (previously known as the NRA in Australia until this month 3/03) asking them to stop the registration of deadly hemorrhagic disease on food baits. This is an extremely urgent matter and may save the lives of many species. If the APVMA approves these RHD food baits the future effects on many animal species including humans cannot be predicted. The APVMA has been warned by Dr David Matson who is a Professor and a US doctor of human health who originally completed his PhD in virology and Dr Alvin Smith who is a world expert on caliciviruses not to spread RHD (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease) on food baits in Australia. Professor Leo Jeffcott of Cambridge University UK as well other scientists have also said that spreading deadly diseases is not advisable. http://members.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/sci.htm The APVMA have said the benefits of spreading the deadly hemorrhagic disease (reducing the number of wild rabbits) outweigh the dangers that we all face. This is exactly the political rhetoric given by the UK Government years ago that Mad Cow Disease would not infect humans. The APVMA are wrong. RHD escaped containment in 1995 and has spread among wild rabbits in Australia. No monitoring of human health is continuing here (and experts say we should be especially monitoring un-specified hepatitis and other illness of unknown origins in humans in Australia). I have undertaken FOI requests for a period of about 7 years and I am absolutely sure that the consideration process for RHD baits is not being undertaken in a fair and reasonable manner. Many emails sent to the APVMA (previously the NRA) from activists from around the world Including the USA and Australia opposing the RHD food baits can't be located by the NRA in their correspondence files. Yet such emailed submissions were important in the consideration process of whether or not to legalise RHD food baits. If you email the APVMA please cc me a copy of your email to rabbit A sample letter opposing the RHD food baits in Australia is at http://members.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/protester.htm or http://www.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/protester.htm The Australian authorities can't promise RHD will not mutate and cause illness in other species of kill other species. Please help stop the spread of this deadly incurable hemorrhagic virus of mammals now.
