Film crew: DO gave nod to clear land

BY SUSAN TAM

PETALING JAYA: The necessary approvals have been obtained to clear the land near

Gunung Brinchang in Cameron Highlands for a film shoot, said a production crew

official.

Enfiniti Productions Sdn Bhd production and location manager Razaq Sahibjahn

said the crew was initially scheduled to film at the location in the middle of

this month.

“But we had to bring forward the dates for filming and obtained verbal approval

from the Forestry Department.

“We were given the go-ahead by the authorities and were told the necessary

documents could be picked up later,” Razaq said, adding that the district

officer approved the land clearing three months ago.

In fact, the department’s officers had informed the crew on Friday to collect

the paperwork from their head office in Raub the following day, he said.

Razaq was commenting on land clearing to film the movie Puteri Gunung Ledang

which was highlighted by the Society of Regional Environmental Awareness of

Cameron Highlands (REACH) <a

on " target= " _blank " >yesterday</a> .

REACH had lodged a report with the department urging action against those

responsible.

On why the crew approached the district office when forest reserves were under

the jurisdiction of the department, Razaq said it was to check on the

application procedures for land clearing work in the highlands.

Razaq said he understood the concerns of environmental groups who had protested

against the land clearing and maintained that the crew would do their best to

minimise the damage caused to the area.

“The scenes for the film require a forest environment and we are not destroying

any plants or vegetation as we are sensitive about environmental conservation,”

he said.
