Guest guest
Help Animals Languishing in Chinese Zoos http://www.peta.org/alert/automation/AlertItem.asp?id=633 CNN and the Los Angeles Times recently reported on the atrocious conditions for animals in Chinese zoos. The reports detailed situations in which animals are left to die of starvation and neglect because many zoos have become unprofitable and because there is no effective legislation in place to monitor the care of animals in zoos. Yet, new zoos are constantly popping up, including one at which alligators and tigers will be both displayed and killed so that visitors can eat their flesh and consume products manufactured from their skins and organs! The Los Angeles Times article stated that " captive animals [in China] have become victims of the mad dash to get rich quick " and that " entrepreneurs have reduced precious wildlife to disposable sources of cash. " Please contact the Chinese ambassador to urge him to use his influence to help ensure that the Chinese government takes this important matter seriously and implements effective legislation that sets forth specific guidelines for the care of animals in zoos.
