Many animals are shipped overseas from Western Australia live as meat animals as well as from other ports around Australia. Anyone wishing to donate to the expansion of PACAT into a national body in Australia and also to help pay for advertisements opposing the live animal export trade, please send donations to People Against Cruelty in Animal Transportation P.O. Cruel slaughterman boasted he sold chefs diseased meat ************************************************* The International Express newspaper (The weeks news from Britain) Tuesday January 14th, 2003 An animal trader who bragged he sold diseased meat to restaurants during the foot-and-mouth crisis also indulged in horrific slaughterhouse cruelty. Undercover investigators videod Michael Hawkswell boasting that he transported infected food. He claimed he could supply cows, lambs, goats, deer; pigeons and peacocks - often to Asian caterers whose food he knew Would be heavily laced with spices - but the animals were killed with brutal disregard for their suffering, a court heard. Hawkswell,27,from Ripon, Yorkshire, and his partner Isap Lakha, 67, of Dewsbury, who both admitted to cruelty and slaughterhouse offences, were warned By the Harrogate court they faced jail when they returned for sentencing. The pair set up a slaughterhouse in Londonderry, North Yorkshire, to slay animals using Halal methods - Islamic dietary needs. Ten goats died in agony. They should have bled to death after having their throats cut but the blade was so blunt several attempts had to be made by " sawing " with the knife.
