Guest guest
The sale of dog and cat fur products is equally prebelant in America. I've seen the same " cat on a mat " figures, as well as dogs. They are absolutely made with the fur of the animal they are representing (I've never seen rabbits with orange tabby markings!. And the seller has ALWAYS told me that it is rabbit. I suspect that the dealer warns them to give this stock reply. California'sVenice Beach boardwalk has a few Chinese vendors who sell these. I've seen them in American run drugstores in L.A. I've seen them available in catalogs from the The Country House, a sort of Martha Stewart type outlet for buying normal household cutesy raggedy ann dolls and teddy bears, cuckoo clocks, coverlet linens, etc. As of 2000, they sold a cat-furred cat figure called 'playful kitty, " Here is the description listed in the catalog: " These cats are so amazingly life-like that we've had customers asl if they're real! Of course not-but they are cute! Measuring 14X5X5, this kitty looks real if you put something like a rag ball (not included) by his front paws. He's resting against an alphabet sampler stitched pillow with homespun patch border. Playful Kitty......................................................................... ...........................$42.99 ABC Pillow........................................................................ ................................$22.99 " After discovering these items being sold through this company, I made a big stink, and they deleted the item. I haven't checked again for quite awhile, so they may have started again. The main point is that you' be surprised where these turn up and how gullible the average buyer is. They DO look " cute " (why wouldn't they? They look just like a REAL LIVE cat!) and most people can't think beyond the absolute surface! By the way, Mexican indoor swapmeets have loads of these too. A buncher that I had the pleasure of helping expose on the TV news had sold pets to Asian restaurants and a FUR factory (right in Los Angeles!) We found the phone numbers on her phone bill, which, for all you slueths out there, is LEGAL to obtain once it is in their garbage can outside their house. Then, of course you need some one who can trace calls. But alot of times you can find the owner of the number (if not unlisted) by using " reverse phone look-up " on the internet. Hope this info has been of some help. Rudy Allen
