The Times of India, quoting a study conducted by the Wildlife Protection Society of India, said the Orissa coastline was once again “dotted with the bodies of thousands of Olive Ridleys”. The rare species of turtle died mostly due to “suffocation in the nets of mechanised trawlers”, the report said. Orissa is one of the few places in the world that witnesses the congregation of thousands of these turtles annually, it added. “More than 100,000 turtles have perished in the last decade, 16,000 last year itself,” the report said. & #8211; AFP
Another perspective from The Statesman, a partner of Asia News Network.
________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2002 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
