Animal rights workers in Holland are being sued for blasphemy over a

poster campaign featuring the Virgin Mary holding a bleeding rabbit.

The Foundation for Dutch Roman Catholics has begun legal action

against the Dutch Animal Rights Organisation.

The Foundation says it is " shocked and outraged " by the posters which

animal rights workers say were designed to make people aware of cruel

farming methods.

In Holland it is traditional to eat chicken or rabbit for Christmas

Dinner.

The poster campaign, with its slogan of " Merry Christmas - don't be

wild about it! " , aims to draw attention to inhumane methods of

farming rabbits, and also turkeys and ducks.

" We didn't want to shock people but just wanted to show the other

side of a nice Christmas dinner, " a spokesman told Algemeen Dagblad.
