Zoned as sanctuary

 

 

A MARINE park is an area of the sea zoned as a sanctuary for the protection of

marine ecosystems. The Department of Fisheries manages five marine parks.

Between 1983 and 1994, these areas were gazetted as “fisheries protected areas”

as an interim measure before the parks were set up. They were gazetted as marine

parks in 1995.
