Guest guest
Dear Friends, Malaysia is into the eating of camel meat which is in demand by the Muslims after the breaking of fast. The slaughter method is the halal way. Some months ago a Buddhist society collected donations on the spot to raise money to save a camel from the cooking pot. The camel is now at the Taiping Zoo. But now there seems to be a demand for camel meat with the animals exported from Australia. In time to come Malaysia will import more camels for their meat. What I wanted to know is: are Australians aware that camels are imported into the country to be slaughtered alive? Do camels suffer stress during the long journey? There is much cruelty in the livestock export trade where sheep and cattle are subjected to all sorts of suffering during their journey and when they reach their country of destination. Are camels subjected to the same kind of treatment during transportation? (By this I mean crammed up, deprived of food and water and kicked about - handled roughly). Will killing of a camel the halal way cause prolonged suffering and how long does it take for the animal to die? Any protest from Australian NGOs? What disturbs me is the killing process, transport conditions and the fact that they are in demand for their meat. Malaysians are into the eating of ostriches and ornamental fish as well, the latest being the flower horn fish. This is becoming a craze. I don't know what's next on the list. Appreciate your response. Thank you. Yitze
